The Law Students for Climate Accountability (LSCA) has recognized Foley Hoag with the organization’s first-ever A+ score on its 2026 Law Firm Climate Change Scorecard. This marks the fourth consecutive year the firm earned a top ranking.
"We are proud to have earned the A+ ranking in this scorecard, a recognition that reflects our unwavering dedication to the clean energy sector," said Mark Barnett, co-chair of Foley Hoag's Energy & Climate Group. "For more than twenty years, we have served the nation's most innovative developers, technology companies, and investors, and even as the industry faces headwinds, we remain committed to advancing the energy transition—both through our transactional work and by defending clients in high-stakes climate impact litigation, as demonstrated by our role as lead counsel to Power Forward Communities in its $2 billion EPA National Clean Investment Fund award."
The annual scorecard, which is put out by LSCA, a student-led organization that seeks to amplify the roles and responsibilities of the legal industry in our current climate crisis, ranks "Vault 100" law firms according to how much fossil fuel work they have engaged in. According to LSCA, the scorecard was designed to draw awareness to the role law firms play in creating, implementing, and safeguarding fossil fuel projects. Grades are based on firms' litigation, transactional, and lobbying efforts. Each firm receives an overall Climate Score that reflects its contribution to the climate crisis, based on the data in the three categories.
Foley Hoag also continues to provide significant pro bono support in the sustainability space and is a member of the Net Zero Lawyers Alliance and Stanford Law School's Lawyers for a Sustainable Economy Initiative, where the firm is featured in the 2025 LSE Annual Report.
