Dr. Amy Gallup Klann focuses her practice on strategic patent portfolio development and management for companies in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and life sciences industries. She has a particular focus on developing IP strategies and patent portfolios (offensive and defensive) for emerging companies, including those developing gene editing treatments, cell therapies, and innovations in the single-cell sequencing space, as well as companies leveraging machine learning and artificial intelligence for life science discovery, POC, and clinical trials.
Her deep technical experience spans gene editing, AAV and VLP-based technologies, cell therapy, stem cell technologies, immunotherapy, molecular genetics, biologics, and neuroscience. She counsels clients at all stages of the business life cycle, from startups building foundational IP portfolios to established market leaders safeguarding and leveraging their innovations globally. Amy also has significant experience managing global prosecution teams to coordinate patent strategy across multiple jurisdictions.
In the oncology field, she has deep experience with inventions involving immune checkpoint blockade. She also has experience with therapeutic stem cell and other factors for AMD treatments.
Amy is actively engaged in the intellectual property community, holding leadership roles in the Conner IP Inn of Court and the Women in IP Network. She is also committed to pro bono work, leveraging the firm's extensive toolbox of legal research capabilities for the Global Justice Center and other pro bono clients.
