I represent sovereign States in international disputes and advise on a range of issues of public international law.
Charlotte Verdon focuses her practice on public international law, international arbitration and litigation. Charlotte has advised States, international organizations, and private clients in various international disputes and advise on a range of public international law issues.
Charlotte is trained in both French and U.S. law.
Prior to joining the firm, Charlotte clerked at the International Court of Justice. Before that, she worked at a leading international law firm in New York where she practiced commercial and investment arbitration, as well as U.S. litigation. Charlotte also previously assisted a member of the International Law Commission and worked in the legal office of UNESCO.
Charlotte's other public international law experience includes advising groups of States in the negotiation of multilateral treaties, in particular the 2023 Agreement on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement). She has also represented clients in human rights matters before UN special procedures, and has provided legal assistance to the permanent mission to the UN of a small-island State.
Representing the Republic of Armenia in investor-State, inter-State, and ICJ proceedings.
Represented an international organization in UNCITRAL arbitrations arising out of contracts with a private entity. *
Advised groups of States in the UN negotiation of the Agreement on Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement). *
Represented a human rights defender in a submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders. *
Represented a company in an ICC commercial arbitration under Venezuelan law. *
Represented a biotech company in a U.S. domestic commercial arbitration. *

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Judicial Fellow at the International Court of Justice (2023-2024). Charlotte clerked for the Vice-President and another Judge of the ICJ.
