What New York Attorneys (and Everyone Else) Need to Know: Privacy, Cybersecurity and Data Protection

October 02, 2023

As you may be aware, New York now requires all members of its state bar to receive education on privacy, cybersecurity, and data protection. Other states may soon follow New York in this regard.

Increased awareness of privacy, cybersecurity, and data protection rules is vital for lawyers in all settings - regardless of mandatory CLE requirements. Cyberthreats are increasing, both in volume and sophistication, and are targeting lawyers and law firms. More and more privacy laws are being passed at the state level. Ensuring that you and your colleagues, whether at firms or on in-house legal teams, are aware of the latest regulations, pitfalls, and best practices is a must to minimize business disruption and increase compliance.

Foley Hoag’s Privacy & Data Security chairs provided an overview of what in-house and outside counsel need to be aware of and advise clients about in the constantly evolving privacy, cybersecurity and data protection landscape.
