Foley Hoag Partner DeAnn F. Smith Invited to Join Fellows of the American Intellectual Property Law Association

The Fellows of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA), a professional organization of attorneys practicing in the field of intellectual property law, has extended an invitation to Foley Hoag Partner DeAnn F. Smith to join its membership.

The AIPLA Fellows is a distinguished group within the association, whose members display outstanding service to AIPLA, prominence within the intellectual property profession, and observation of the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Smith has been an active AIPLA member for over 20 years, and currently serves as Co-Chair of its International & Foreign Law Committee. Her previous AIPLA leadership roles include Vice Chair of Patent Treaties and International Policy; Vice Chair of the Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge & Folklore Committee; Chair and Vice Chair of the Biotechnology Committee; and Chair and Vice Chair of the Emerging Technologies Committee.

AIPLA is a national, voluntary association constituted of lawyers in private and corporate practice, in government service and in the academic community. It strives to maintain a high standard of professional ethics, aid in the improvement of laws relating to intellectual property and in their proper interpretation by the courts, and provide legal education on intellectual property issues to the public and to its members. The organization represents a wide and diverse spectrum of individuals, companies and institutions involved in the practice of patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition law, as well as other fields of law affecting intellectual property.

Smith's practice at Foley Hoag focuses on obtaining worldwide patent protection for pharmaceutical and life sciences clients and advising on matters relating to intellectual property portfolio strategy. Her areas of technology expertise include immunology, genomics, proteomics, bio-markers and drug development.
