Four Foley Hoag Partners Named Lawyers of the Year by Best Lawyers 2017

August 23, 2016

Recognition reflects individual abilities, professionalism and integrity, as determined by peers

Best Lawyers has named Foley Hoag partners Jonathan Ettinger, Julia Huston, Marty Murphy and Lisa Wood as 2017 Lawyers of the Year. The distinction is presented annually to one stand-out lawyer in each practice area and designated metropolitan area. Selections are based on voting averages received during exhaustive peer-review assessments conducted by Best Lawyers with thousands of lawyers each year.

Ettinger, Boston’s Litigation - Environmental Lawyer of the Year, has a particular focus on a wide range of environmental law and insurance recovery issues, emphasizing distinct areas of counsel including insurance recovery, hazardous waste, brownfields redevelopment and environmental compliance counseling and litigation.

Huston, Boston’s Copyright Law Lawyer of the Year, chairs Foley Hoag’s Trademark, Copyright and Unfair Competition practice group and co-chairs the Advertising and Marketing practice group. She provides a full range of services focused on intellectual property, including litigation, strategic transactions, portfolio development and counseling.

Murphy, Boston’s Criminal Defense Lawyer of the Year, represents companies, individuals, educational and other non-profit institutions and law firms in complex civil litigation, criminal investigations and regulatory proceedings. Murphy was previously honored by Best Lawyers as Boston's Criminal Defense "Lawyer of the Year" in 2013.

Wood, Boston’s Litigation - Antitrust Lawyer of the Year, co-chairs Foley Hoag’s Litigation Department, and chairs the Antitrust and Auditor Defense Practice Groups. She handles business litigation and government investigations involving antitrust, securities fraud and accountants liability. She also handles internal investigations and advises on competition matters including mergers and joint ventures, pricing and distribution strategy, IP licensing and standard setting activities among competitors.

Receiving Lawyer of the Year recognition by Best Lawyers reflects the high level of respect a lawyer has earned among other leading lawyers in the same communities and practice areas for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.

Best Lawyers is known as the oldest peer-review publication in the legal profession. The 2017 edition - which lists 30 Foley Hoag attorneys - recognizes lawyers in 140 practice areas, covering all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
