In his counseling work, Lucas advises clients on portfolio strategy, provides opinions, and prepares. As part of that work, he manages global patent portfolios for a variety of companies ranging from early-stage startups to publicly traded companies, in technology areas including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, chemical manufacturing processes, and catalysts. He has also litigated patent infringement and trade secret actions before U.S. district courts, international arbitration panels, the U.S. International Trade Commission, and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
Lucas has a background in chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology. For his Ph.D. research, he used single-molecule FRET to study conformational dynamics in proteins. Lucas also designed and build a single-molecule microscope and developed novel statistical methods to efficiently analyze photon arrival time data. His prior research examined photoisomerization mechanisms in constrained stilbene analogues.
