World Trademark Review’s 2014 Rankings Distinguishes Foley Hoag Among World’s Leading Trademark Law Firms

February 05, 2014

The international publication World Trademark Review has included Foley Hoag among the top trademark law firms in the world for a fourth consecutive year, and commended two of the firm’s attorneys for their expertise in trademark matters.

World Trademark Review 1000 – The World's Leading Trademark Professionals 2014 is the only standalone publication to recommend individual practitioners and their firms exclusively in the trademark field, and identifies the leading players in more than 60 key jurisdictions globally. The review placed Foley Hoag in its silver category.

Partner Julia Huston, chair of the firm’s Trademark, Copyright and Unfair Competition Practice, was ranked in the gold category in enforcement and litigation, and silver in prosecution and strategy. Counsel Susan Barbieri Montgomery was ranked in the bronze category in prosecution and strategy.

Foley Hoag represents both domestic and international clients in trademark matters. The firm’s trademark clients are leaders in a wide range of industries, including life sciences, consumer products, technology, insurance and financial services, professional services, entertainment and education.

"Popular outfit Foley Hoag is a frequent participant on high-stakes enforcement instructions and large-scale filing programmes," the review noted. "Many of its attorneys undertake both prosecution and enforcement assignments, resulting in an integrated, tactical approach." The review went on to cite "hugely experienced and extremely effective” group chair Julia Huston as “a premier choice on critical matters” who “secures, polices and defends the rights of a cadre of important corporations.” It also recognized “well-respected” Susan Barbieri, who “specialises in prosecution projects."

Methodology for the World Trademark Review 1000 comprises four months of phone interviews with hundreds of lawyers and clients, and a written submission from each firm.
