August 01, 2023

Foley Hoag LLP has welcomed Jeongseok Jay Yu as partner, further expanding the firm’s mergers and acquisitions, private equity and corporate strengths. Yu will work with private equity sponsors and public and private companies in connection with domestic and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, corporate governance matters, minority investments, divestitures, joint ventures, restructurings, and other corporate matters.

Yu's clients include private equity and venture funds, their portfolio companies, and strategic buyers and sellers in public and private acquisitions.

"Our global M&A practice continues to grow in stature as we advise clients on some of their most complex transactions," said Mergers & Acquisitions practice Co-Chair Erica Rice. “We are excited Jay is joining our team. His experience across sectors — especially healthcare, technology and life sciences — will benefit a large cross-section of our clients. His notable private equity specialty will also be a significant asset."

In addition to a broad range of private equity transactions, Yu focuses his practice on complex corporate transactions on behalf of companies and venture and growth equity funds in a number of industries including biotechnology, software, consumer, energy and healthcare.

“The recent momentum and growth at Foley Hoag present an exciting opportunity for me,” said Yu. “I am thrilled to join the firm and collaborate with the dynamic and talented team in continuing to offer premier M&A services.”

Diversity, equity and inclusion at Foley Hoag also played a key role in Yu's decision to join the firm.

"I have been impressed by Foley Hoag's diverse and collaborative culture," he said. "The firm’s commitment to diversity enables it to provide clients with a broad array of perspectives, experiences and creativity."

After starting his legal career at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, Yu was previously a shareholder in the New York office of Greenberg Traurig, LLP. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University, and a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School. Yu spent two years as an interpreter in the Republic of Korea Army.
